Pete Vaky, a FOCUS Managing Director, has 35 years of investment banking experience leading merger and acquisition, private equity investing, capital raising and structuring and complex debt and equity transactions. In his capacity as head of various capital formation business units, Mr. Vaky managed over 1,000 transactions in the debt and equity markets with an aggregate value exceeding $200 billion. His expertise includes capital raising in the international and domestic public and private debt and equity markets, mergers and acquisitions, valuation services, debt negotiation and restructuring, cross border and international transactions, as well as corporate finance.
Before joining FOCUS, Mr. Vaky was the co-founder and managing partner of VVS CAPITAL, a private equity group dedicated to opportunities in logistics, energy, health care and business services with target companies in the middle market facing generational transition. He led the successful acquisition of James Brown Contracting Inc., the largest hauler of paper and packaging in the southeastern U.S.
Previously, he was a managing director and head of distribution and syndicated finance for SunTrust Robinson Humphrey. While there, he grew the bank’s national syndication presence from 31st in the league tables to the top 10 for lead arranger-leveraged transactions (9th) and agent investment grade transactions (6th) by structuring, underwriting, distributing and trading the largest, most profitable transactions in the bank’s history.
Mr. Vaky’s previous experience also includes managing director of global distribution for Bank of Montreal, managing director and section 20 principal for the debt trading group at Bank of America Securities, senior director for emerging markets trading at Continental Bank, group head for Continental Illinois Asia Ltd in Hong Kong and Sydney Australia, and the assistant representative for Wells Fargo Bank in Mexico City.
Mr. Vaky is a member of the Board of Trustees for Holy Innocents Episcopal School, an observer on the Board of James Brown Contracting Inc., and an Advisory Board Member for the Verus Carbon Neutral Partnership.
He received his B.A. (with Distinction) in History and English from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from DePaul University in Chicago.
